The research focused on the car tires components which may have carcinogenic potential.
Petroleum-based RPOs contain carcinogenic substances - polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), which are emitted to the atmosphere during the service life of tires.
PAH accumulate in the human body and cause cancer.
For this reason, for more than 6 years many countries have been amending their legislation in order to allow the use of only those RPOs which have the content of carcinogenic substances that does not exceed the research-based limits set forth in respective regulations.
